Roditikos / Pidichtos / Cretan
Aegean Island (Rhodes)
The "Rhodian, Jumping or Cretan" is one of the most representative and lively traditional dances of Rhodes. It owes its name and origin to the Cretans who settled on the island during the Ottoman occupation, who brought their dance customs there.
It is a dance that is often danced with strong steps, jumps and a lively rhythm, echoing the dynamic style of Cretan jumping dances. It is traditionally accompanied by local instruments such as the violin and the lute, while its lyrics and melody refer to the unaccustomed Dodecanese.
