Tagkalis (Syrtos / Tsamikos)

Peloponnese (Messinia / Arcadia)

Double-rhythm dances that were danced in several areas of Messinia by both locals and Arkadis.

The dance was danced at all festivals.

The song is historical and refers to Tagkalis who was a pioneer of the Greek Revolution in the mountainous villages of Kyparissia when he was captured by the Ottomans and taken to be hanged. This event took place around 1700.
