Tsamikos
Greece
It is considered a panhellenic dance because it is danced in most regions of Greece, although it is not danced in Thrace and the islands.
There is no proven origin of its name, but it is assumed that it took it from the Tsamouria or Tsamiko of Epirus and the Tsamides of the prefecture of Thesprotia (Epirus).
It is also called “kleftikos” because during the Ottoman period it was danced by thieves. Tsamis means tall, tall – from “tsami” the fir or pine.
